Curcuma longa – Turmeric
Turmeric is well known as a spice used in Indian Cuisine, but in fact its traditional uses span far beyond this. It’s been used for centuries to help maintain healthy blood, skin, circulation and as a nourishment to feed the whole body. Its bright golden colour comes from a pigment known as curcuminoids and the essential oils within the root are called turmerones. The curcuminoids and the turmerones work together within the body as powerful antioxidants, helping to attack nasty free radicals which can damage and age our bodies. They also stimulate a healthy inflammation response whilst enhancing circulation, protecting the brain, rejuvenating the liver and targeting pain.
Research has shown that turmeric acts upon certain pain receptors within the body, it’s been demonstrated as being particularly effective for chest and abdominal pain, frozen shoulder and abdominal cramping.
Turmeric enhances blood flow through the liver improving detoxification but also stimulating cellular repair mechanisms in damaged liver cells.
Turmeric actively inhibits inflammatory pathways within the body making it a wonderful Remedy for digestive of musculoskeletal inflammation. In the digestive system turmeric helps Balance levels of bacteria supporting a healthy digestive environment. Turmeric has potent action upon heart and circulation encouraging anti-platelet activity, reducing the risk of plaque build up in the arteries and improving the flow of blood to the heart.
Boswellia serrata – Frankincense
Native to the Middle East and North Africa, Frankincense is a small tree, which grows in hot dry places. The bark releases a liquid that hardens into a hard brown resin, which is used for incense and medicine.
Frankincense has digestive properties in that it is anti-inflammatory and can be used for Colitis and Crohn’s disease. It also improves blood flow to the joints, preventing breakdown of tissues. It has been traditionally used for relieving pain from arthritis and other joint related issues. It contains triterpenes (volatile oils) called boswellic acid, which have pain reducing properties and increases blood supply to the joints and strengthens blood vessels.
Piper nigrum – Black Pepper
Black pepper enhances digestion and absorption by up to 30%, meaning that if taken simultaneously with turmeric and frankincense, more will be absorbed by the body. Piperine stimulates an enzyme That enhances the uptake of amino acids from the gastrointestinal tract. It also stimulates circulation and can reduce cholesterol.
Within the immune system, pepper is anti-inflammatory and enhances immunity. It Is also antioxidant. By adding a little pepper to the blends we are ensuring that the bio-availability of the Joint range is maximised.
Terpenes – Beta Caryophyllene, Myrcene
Terpenes are the volatile oils found within the cannabis plant. Different plant strains contain different Terpenes and differing levels of each terpene, which explains why there are so many varieties of
Cannabis and why many of them have different efffects. Some make you more energised, whilst some
are more relaxing. Some will enhance thinking and sharpness, whilst some will just make the user want
to sleep. We have tailored the terpenes in our oils to be specific to the conditions that each product is aimed at. With the joint range, we are looking for anti-inflammatory, relaxing and pain relieving and in the night time versions that needs to be even more relaxing, to allow for reasonable sleep. This is not a “Sleeping pill” and therefore won’t make you go to sleep, but will allow for relaxation to enable sleep to Follow.
Myrcene is found in hops and lemongrass amongst others and as such is very relaxing, whilst beta- caryophyllene is found in black pepper (which as we’ve established is anti-inflammatory) and also in rosemary and cloves, which are also both anti-inflammatory and slightly analgesic.
